State-of-the-art services based on innovation

Dear reader,

Those who opt for a career in the health sector usually do so for two main reasons. Firstly, there is certainly an interest in medical topics. Secondly, the aim of contributing to social progress and wellbeing plays a key role. At the LNS, both are on the agenda – every day. As a health laboratory operating according to international standards, we are part of the resilient backbone of Luxembourg’s healthcare system. As such, we rely on excellence, and on multidisciplinary teams in which individual competences combine to offer state-of-the-art services for patients and stakeholders.

In addition, our focus is also on innovation. In other words, our employees increasingly have the opportunity to live professional innovation, always with the aim of being able to serve the country and its people even better. 2021 was a special year in this context. Whilst in 2020 we as the LNS showed that we can handle a crisis, in 2021 we created the basis for our “New Normal”. This New Normal does not entail reverting back to the pre-COVID-19 situation, but rather strengthens it with the experience gained since the outbreak of the pandemic to form a sustainable whole – new and normal.

Scientific excellence and innovation were a central theme at the LNS last year across all departments and at all levels. In the development of our value system, we opted for a structured and collaborative approach. Last year, we have succeeded in bringing on board expertise in both international industry and the Luxembourgish landscape. In close cooperation, our entire team developed and coordinated a strategic approach to innovation since the end of 2020, and in 2021 laid the sustainable foundations for the LNS’s role as an innovative health player with broad impact.

As a result of this common initiative, the wind of scientific excellence has been blowing through the LNS’ sails since 2021 – and from all directions. It is about expertise as well as technology – and often about human/ machine interface, which is versatile and always first-class at the LNS. Thus, we have made targeted investments in cutting-edge technology and, in parallel, added further expertise to our international team. In addition, we have established numerous partnerships, both nationally and internationally, and become a driving force in the training of medical professionals at the University of Luxembourg.

2021 was hence another essential year for us as the LNS, with the addition of exciting new chapters to our corporate story. You will find some of them in this report; woven together they also tell the story of an innovative health player, always evolving with passion and patience to make the lives of people in Luxembourg – and beyond – better and healthier. With this in mind, I wish you an inspiring read.

L'élément humain au LNS

Chère lectrice, cher lecteur,

Ceux qui optent pour une carrière dans le secteur de la santé le font généralement pour deux raisons principales. Premièrement, il y a certainement un intérêt pour les sujets médicaux. Deuxièmement, l’objectif de contribuer au progrès social et au bien-être joue un rôle essentiel. Au LNS, les deux sont à l’ordre du jour – tous les jours. En tant que laboratoire de santé fonctionnant selon des normes internationales, nous faisons partie de l’épine dorsale du système de santé luxembourgeois. À ce titre, nous misons sur l’excellence et sur une équipe multidisciplinaire au sein de laquelle les compétences individuelles se conjuguent pour former une offre complémentaire de pointe pour les patients.

De plus, nous mettons l’accent sur l’innovation. En d’autres termes, nos employés ont de plus en plus l’occasion de vivre l’innovation professionnelle, toujours dans le but de pouvoir servir encore mieux le pays et ses habitants. Dans ce contexte, 2021 a été une année particulière. Alors qu’en 2020, nous avons montré en tant que LNS que nous pouvions gérer une crise, en 2021, nous avons créé les bases de notre “New Normal”. Cette nouvelle normalité ne consiste pas à revenir à la situation d’avant COVID-19, mais à la renforcer avec l’expérience acquise depuis le déclenchement de la pandémie pour former un ensemble durable – nouveau et normal.

L’excellence scientifique et l’innovation ont été un thème central au LNS l’année dernière, au sein de tous les départements et à tous les niveaux. Dans le développement de notre système de valeurs, nous avons opté pour une approche structurée et collaborative. L’année dernière, nous avons réussi à intégrer des expertises de l’industrie internationale et du secteur luxembourgeois. En étroite collaboration, l’ensemble de notre équipe a développé et coordonné une approche stratégique de l’excellence scientifique depuis fin 2020, et a posé en 2021 les bases durables du rôle du LNS en tant qu’acteur de santé innovant à large impact.

Grâce à cette initiative commune, le vent de l’excellence scientifique souffle dans les voiles du LNS depuis 2021 – et de toutes les directions. Il s’agit d’expertise autant que de technologie – et souvent d’interface homme/machine, qui est polyvalente et toujours de premier choix au LNS. Ainsi, nous avons réalisé des investissements ciblés dans des technologies de pointe et, parallèlement, nous avons renforcé l’expertise de notre équipe internationale. En outre, nous avons établi de nombreux partenariats, tant au niveau national qu’international, et sommes devenus un élément moteur dans la formation des professionnels de la santé à l’Université du Luxembourg.

2021 a donc été une autre année essentielle pour le LNS, avec l’ajout de nouveaux chapitres passionnants à l’histoire de notre institution. Vous en trouverez quelques-uns dans ce rapport ; tissés ensemble, ils racontent aussi l’histoire d’un acteur de santé innovant, évoluant toujours avec passion et patience pour rendre la vie des gens au Luxembourg – et au-delà – meilleure et plus saine. Dans cet esprit, je vous souhaite une lecture inspirante.
